Key Research Areas

Targeting motor learning & execution

We research ways to boost motor learning and motor recovery after brain injury. This includes non-invasive brain stimulation during learning and during sleep. We also investigate the impact that sleep disruption has on consolidation of motor learning.

Understanding & Engineering sleeping brain

We aim to understand how sleep changes with recovery from brain injury, using techniques to measure sleep in the rehabilitation hospital and home. We collaborate with other CoRE groups to develop and test closed-loop non-invasive brain stimulation during sleep, testing effects on slow wave sleep and consolidation of learning.

Research Techniques

Experimental Medicine

Our research includes human participants, both healthy participants and people with brain injury such as stroke.

Datasets and resources

Datasets are available through our dataset platform is designed to enable the sharing of several classes of research data generated by the Medical Research Council Brain Network Dynamics Unit at the University of Oxford (MRC BNDU). The datasets could include:

  • Electrophysiological recording from humans and rodents
  • Digital micrographs of brain tissue
  • Scripts and code used for analysis of data
  • Printable 3D models and microcontroller code
  • Code for modelling of neuronal networks

All downloads require making an account; the primary reason for this is to enable us to monitor downloads of datasets which allows us to report this to funding bodies.
